Outdoor Wall Fountain
Class up a regular landscaping project!
Flowing water has long been recognized as an integral component of any high class landscaping or garden project. The presence of flowing water viewed against the naturalistic backdrop of growing plants creates a two part visual interplay that is at once both engaging and calming. With the addition of the gentle sound of rushing water, your landscape project will take on a whole new dimension, and it is for this reason that an outdoor wall fountain is an ideal, irreplaceable component. Outdoor fountains come in many forms, from the standalone stacked basins seen in more lavish settings to the simple stone pile fountains one might expect in a zen garden. Outdoor wall fountains, however, have major advantages over other types. Unlike basin fountains outdoor wall fountains do not require that a portion of the property be set aside to accommodate their bottom surface area, nor do they require laying of pipe across your valuable growing spaces. This can save a nightmarish headache in planning and as many wall fountains are constructed of lightweight resins, their inclusion in your plans can be a great aid in decreasing the amount of heavy labor that has to go into the building process. If the terrain in your space isn’t flat, a wall fountain may be your best bet to get flowing water, short of elaborate terracing projects. Another advantage of the resin construction and readily adaptable nature of
many models means that the walls into which they are installed need not be heavily reinforced. A lightweight resin outdoor wall fountain may be installed even into a wooden garden fence. This is a great advantage which many people with small yards will be sure to find useful in their efforts to beautify their immediate environment. Wall fountains can also be much less expensive than their pool or basin counterparts, and with smaller size and flow rate, comes easier, less regular maintenance. Wall fountains are also used in cases where people don’t want the fountain to be the main centerpiece of the garden area. Since the fountain is not out in the middle of the space somewhere, it becomes slightly more understated, while still retaining it’s same aesthetic function. Using a wall fountain instead of a basin fountain or pool fountain can make the difference between a garden that feels tacky or overdone, and a garden in which every new element one notices is a pleasant surprise. Fountains are not a consideration only for those with garden areas. A wall fountain can be a cheap way to get started on a landscaping project, whose purpose is to beautify or organize the elements of a yard or outdoor space. This same principle of design is often applied to office or business spaces, and generally yields great results. A wall fountain in the middle of an end wall can create a visual dividing point to help split the space in half. For those wondering why wall fountains are so aesthetically pleasing, the answer lies in the nature of walls. This is no great insight, but walls, which are generally uniform, flat surfaces, suffer from a regular continuity that generally is not as exciting to look at. The human eye seeks out both patterns and deviations from patterns, and knowing this, we should try to create interesting visual focal points for the eye to rest upon. This is why any space surrounded by a wall can benefit from outdoor wall fountains as a good way to break up the visual background. You’ll notice this effect immediately after you install your fountain, as it will be one of the first things that visitors to your yard or garden will be drawn towards. Consider getting some type of fountain for that added benefit.
