Table Fountains

A table water fountain is so relaxing to watch and listen to!  You can bring the tranquil feeling of sitting by a trickling brook indoors with table size water fountains.  If you love the sound of water following the path of a creek and watching as it passes over stones and other obstacles, you will love the peaceful feeling you can obtain with a water fountain!

Table water fountains come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Many are made to look like natural elements right down to the rocky area the water flows over. In fact, many of the fountains include rocks that you put in the pools where the water collects.

Some of the table fountains have more modern designs.  They may be styled like a fountain with a statue in the middle. Some feature a piece of rippled plastic glass for the water to flow over.  The glass is designed to disperse the water in ever changing patterns. It also helps to reflect light that passes through the water. The varying degrees of bumps and grooves in the glass combined with the varying degrees of ripples in the water create a kaleidoscope of colors.

All the table top water fountains work basically the same.  Water is initially poured into a reservoir or pool and then is pumped up to the top of the fountain through tubes.  Once at the top, the water spills over making a waterfall and goes back down into the pool.  It is a never ending cycle once the pump is started.  Water that is in the pool passes through various types of filtration systems prior to reaching the pump.  The reason for this is so that the pump doesn’t get clogged with debris.  Some of fountains have better filtration systems than others.  Normally, you can remove the filters and rinse them in the opposite direction of the fountain’s water flow to clean them.

Many of the table fountains also include some type of lighting.  Some units run both the pump and the light by battery and others run on electricity.  The lights can be single color bulbs or have a rotating color screen above them that is run by a small submersible motor.  The multi-colored screens produce interesting affects against the water.

The water used in most indoor fountains is minimal.  While it does require regular changes, the amount of time between changes will depend largely on how frequently you use the fountain.  Also, be sure to maintain the correct water level at all times; remember that hot summer days or high home heating and fireplaces will cause some of the water to evaporate.  For the pump and any light motor the fountain may have to work properly, it is very important to maintain the recommended water level.
